Improving community and communication at a school for children and young people with learning difficulties

Five Acre Wood is a special school dedicated to supporting the growth of pupils aged 2 to 19 with profound, severe, and complex learning difficulties.

Faced with unique challenges and pressures, we worked with their leadership team and staff to develop a highly inclusive community across the school so that they could to deliver world class education for their pupils.

THE CHALLENGE

The school accommodates 850 pupils and 450 staff, so maintaining and enhancing connection and communication across staff is seen as vital in the delivery of world class education. Differences in personality and communication styles can sometimes challenge this sense of connection, creating obstacles to the school's mission of promoting a supportive environment for all. 

THE SOLUTION

We introduced the Mindflick app to staff across the school to help them understand individual behavioural preferences and provide crucial insights into colleagues' personalities and communication styles. 

This initiative was part of a broader engagement with Mindflick, which included personalised coaching with senior leaders, team consultancy services, and Mindflick Masterclasses for all staff to enrich the school's communal spirit and propel them towards world class education.

THE IMPACT

Through our partnership with Five Acre Wood, staff members have gained a better understanding of themselves and learned to appreciate the perspectives of others, enhancing collaboration and support throughout the school.

Improved staff relationships have benefitted their diverse pupil population, resulting in better teamwork across staff and a more supportive educational environment for all.
